We know that our forefathers very generally kept the beginning of May as a great festival, and it is still regarded as the trysting time of witches, i.e. once of wise-women and fays; who can doubt that heathen sacrifices blazed that day?

The White Women have lost their order and discipline.. the few surviving remnants of the Women warriors are now willful harlots with ripped frocks and smeared lipstick. Now as the light half of the year comes to a close the White Women have become decadent and lustful, corrupted by months of debauchery with the Red Men. They indulge their wild and wanton sides for one last night before the dark winter comes.

The Red Men are the Lords and Ladies of Misrule. Samhuinn is a time for mischief - the World Turn'd Upside Down - a night of the year when fools become kings. The Red Men represent the archetypes of the mischief makers, Pan-like figures who live for the moment without a care in the world or any inhibitions to censor them. They make merry, tempt, seduce, carry out acts of foolishness and wantoness and inspire the revellers to cast aside their thoughts of the next day and abandon themselves to the excesses of the night.
